Instruments for laboratory tests with controlled flow

Laboratory controlled flow tests are used to study corrosion (FAC) and erosion-corrosion phenomena, allow you to select corrosion inhibitors and study the effect of mass transfer phenomena on the electrochemical properties of the material. Cormet manufactures a variety of laboratory flow control instruments for high pressure and medium temperature applications.

All necessary information about laboratory flow control instruments is described in ASTM G170 - 06 "Standard Guide for Evaluating and Selecting Oilfield and Refining Equipment and Corrosion Inhibitors in the Laboratory" and in ASTM G184 - 06 "Standard Practice for Evaluating Oil Field and Corrosion Inhibitors by Method Rotating Cage".

The rotating electrode method is the most common. The Rotating Disk Electrode (RDE) is the simplest instrument where the working electrode current depends on the square root of the angular velocity.

The Rotating Annular Disk Electrode (RRDE) is used for the quantitative and qualitative determination of samples dissolving on the working electrode disk. The Rotating Cylindrical Electrode (RCE) provides uniform shear stress on a cylindrical surface. Rotating Cage (RC) - is a sample holder for rotating coupons - corrosion inhibitor is selected based on weight loss data.

The shock jet setup has a pump that pumps water through a relatively small diameter nozzle perpendicular to the sample. At a certain distance from the center of the jet, the shear stress can be determined. The Shock Jet method generates a higher shear voltage than a conventional rotating electrode (RCE).

The high-velocity loop is a versatile instrument for studying the effect of flow on the corrosion and electrochemical properties of materials. It can be used to test not only standard samples, but also various kinds of real geometries such as elbows, bends, valves, etc. The high-speed circuit can also be used to simulate heat exchange processes.
